UAA Opens Online Submission for Abstracts - Papers, Posters, and Presenters for 2018 Annual Collegiate Aviation Conference

The University Aviation Association’s sessions invites proposals for presentations for education. UAA’s conference offers multiple platforms to present relevant research and instruction - related material to your colleagues. The conference offers the ideal opportunity to gain exposure to innovative, groundbreaking programs and partnerships, and to share best practices with leading educators and industry representatives. Professionals from universities, research institutions, airlines, government agency and regulators, air safety investigation, students, and all relevant participants in the collegiate aviation system are invited to contribute by presentation, oral paper, or poster. The Program Planning Committee chaired by David Ison, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Worldwide, will review abstract submissions and notify applicants of acceptance by April 27th.

Education Sessions
Collegiate education plays a vital role in the aviation industry - a role that is becoming increasingly important as the industry seeks to facilitate growth of collegiate aviation education programs. UAA invites proposals for the Education Sessions to be presented on Thursday and Friday, September 27 and 28, at the 2018 Collegiate Aviation Education Conference. The Conference offers the ideal opportunity to gain exposure to innovative, groundbreaking programs, partnerships, and to share best practices with leading educators and industry representatives. UAA requests proposals representing all segments of the industry: air traffic control, flight, FTDs, maintenance, management, operations, UAS, etc. The allotted time for most sessions is 30 minutes. Four submission categories are available.

Best Practices Session
UAA seeks to highlight and disseminate information on what is working well for you in your classroom or laboratory, or on your flight line. This is a very practical forum on concrete initiatives that can encompass an innovative way to teach a particular topic, a new way of structuring a class, or even new programs. It is a way to share exciting innovations to facilitate aviation education. Participants are afforded 15 to 20 minutes for their presentation, scheduled Friday, September 28, at the 2018 Collegiate Aviation Education Conference. Proposals should include: 1) a clear statement of the challenge; 2) a description of the new and/or innovative approach; and 3) the benefits experienced and lessons learned from the implementation of the approach.

Research Roundtable
The Research Roundtable is an opportunity to make a short, three - to - four minute presentation on a work in progress or proposed research. Presenters distribute a one-page abstract, including their contact information, to all Roundtable participants. UAA has transitioned to a REFEREED Abstract process. However, the goal of the Research Roundtable remains the same—to foster dialog on the topic; therefore, audiovisual equipment will not be made available for this session. The author of each reviewed and accepted abstract is requested to bring 40 copies of the abstract to share with the audience at the Research Roundtable. The Research Roundtable, chaired by a faculty facilitator, will be presented on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the Collegiate Aviation Education Conference in Dallas, Texas. The selection committee will be looking for a clear statement of the purpose of the research, a clear description of research methodology, and a brief review of any available research on the subject (if applicable). Due to the demands of the schedule, the Roundtable will be limited to no more than 20 reviewed and accepted submittals.

Condensed Professional Development Workshops
Two Professional Development Workshops and two Lunch and Learn Sessions will be presented on Thursday & Friday, September 27 & 28, 2018 at the Collegiate Aviation Education Conference in Dallas, TX. The Workshops, which are one hour in length, provide an exceptional opportunity to share your unique expertise with colleagues. Past workshops have addressed institutional fundraising, writing for publication, grant writing, preparing tenure and promotion portfolios, aircraft acquisition planning, developing learning objectives and test items, and safety management systems, to name a few.

Virtual Student Poster Competition
The virtual poster session provides both graduate and undergraduate students the opportunity to publish and share their research findings at the conference and via the UAA Web site, www.uaa.aero. All accepted entries will be posted in a public area of the UAA website for judging and public viewing by members and the general public. Winners will be announced at the 2018 UAA Collegiate Aviation Education Conference, and cash awards will be given in both the undergraduate and graduate categories. First, second, and third place winners in both categories will receive cash prizes of $300, $200, and $100, respectively. All participants will receive certificates of accomplishment.
